Orientalism after Edward Said and Rene Guenon is demonstrably fairer and sympathetic to classical Islam. Immigration, globalization and widespread access to IT has created a more egalitarian atmosphere in academia. The availability of recent works by Muslim academics such as SMN Al-Attas, SH Nasr, IR al-Faruqi is ample comfort to fall back on should we be clouded in doubt. Thus there is no excuse for us to be paranoid about exploring the works of Western orientalist and philosophers.
